The student will create a table of data to form a scatterplot. The student will determine the equation of the parabola of best fit and its correlation coefficient.
Real world application
A quadratic regression with strong correlation can be used to make estimations and predictions. This enables a researcher to interpolate data points, or a marketing department to determine how much profit will result from advertising dollars spent.
Click “New Point” and use the keypad to enter a new point into the table. Once at least three coordinates are entered, click “Update Graph” to plot the points and generate the parabola of best fit, as well as the equation for the parabola and the data’s correlation coefficient. “Reset Table” will clear all points from the table and graph.
