This image shows a karyogram of a healthy human male. The condensed chromosomes were stained using a chemical that darkens the parts of a chromosome that are rich in adenine and thymine. This creates a banding pattern on the chromosomes, making it easier to identify and match chromosome pairs. Notice that the chromosomes in a real karyogram are irregularly shaped, unlike the straight chromosome illustrations used in this lab.
