This lab will allow you to use calorimetry to determine the heat produced or absorbed by dissolving a salt in water and classify the chemical process as endothermic or exothermic.
Real world application
Endothermic and exothermic reactions have different uses. Knowing the amount of energy that is absorbed or produced by a chemical process helps determine what it might be useful for. For example, the amount and type of energy change that occurs during the dissolution of ammonium nitrate makes it useful in instant cold packs.
Solute:
Add water to the cup and then drag the cup under the spoon to add a solute. Use the balance to measure mass and the thermometer to measure temperature. Reset the lab to repeat an experiment.
